Salt of the earth? No Scum of it Was I not worth the trouble? Or Not worth the hike There were things you wanted And I could have been a key You swallowed the key Stripped down And then dove into the murky water Knowing that I was too timid to follow I stood there Barefooted on the cold wooden dock Legs crossed, toes pointed Biting my hand, towel under arm Like a child my saucer blue eyes Peered into the depths Seeing nothing but dark waters You left, but you also hid Though I know right where you are Breathing through your gills Laughing to yourself Naked With your pointed teeth Hiding under a rocky shelf In the dark depths Holding the piece of me, the key No longer shining Dim, covered in shit, and drowned Yet you float there laughing like a maniac in the dark
This is a captivating piece. You do a great job with the details and the imagery!
